    Leh Motorcycle Ride #124: The Dream Circuit (15 to 29 June 2019)

    When the stars align … That’s when many live their dream to motorcycle through Ladakh. On the Leh motorcycle ride, some choose the traditional route — with high tourist density, others, prefer the offbeat ones. And the latter is what this year’s Musafirs Leh Motorcycle Ride is gonna be. Highlights of what you’ll experience this June on the road.

    What You’ll Experience On This Leh Motorcycle Ride

    • Amritsar. That’s where we’ll all assemble on Saturday, 15th June. During the day, we collect our bikes from the Amritsar train station/gati warehouse/mechanic — and visit the GOLDEN TEMPLE to seek the blessings of Wahe Guru. The ride officially starts with an early dinner that evening where we get to know each other, set expectations and boundaries for the next two weeks and simply use the time to get “in the zone.”
    • Chenani Tunnel. The longest road tunnel in India. Riding through this two-year old tunnel, that’s more than NINE kilometers long is an experience in itself. And what awaits a few kilometers on the other side is the famous rajma chawal – desi ghee with anaardaana chutney at Peerah (google it!)
    • Zozi La. The first high-mountain pass you’ll be riding through on this route … and if lucky, you may experience snow!
    • Kargil War Memorial. This war is memorial situated at Dras at the foothills of Tololing Hills. We bet, you’ll not come out of this place without tears in your eyes.
    • Leh.
    • Diskit-Nubra. You’ll ride through the Khardung La to reach here – it’s probably the only place in India where your camera will capture — Snow capped peaks, a huge sand desert, a river and double humped camels in the same shot. Mesmerizing — to say the least.
    • Merak. No roads and an amazing view of the Pangong Tso.
    • Hanle. Hanle, in the Changthang valley has a scenic landscape that is unique even to Ladakh — and it boasts of one of the world’s highest observatories. Very close to the Indo-China line of actual control. ILP-dependent.
    • Tso Kar. Another less frequented high-altitude lake — known for various rare species sighting.
    • Baralacha La and Rohtang La. Few places simply need no introduction.

    The Ride Plan

    For this Leh Motorcycle Ride, we ship our bikes to Amritsar (those few lucky ones with additional chuttis ride all the way). We assemble with our bikes at the hotel in Amritsar on 15th June … and spend the following nights at these destinations: Udhampur, Srinagar, Kargil, Leh-2, Diskit-2, Merak (Pangong), Hanle, Tso Kar, Jispa, Manali/Naggar and the last night at Chandigarh on 28 June (Friday). Fly out of Chandigarh on Saturday, rest on Sunday and resume office on Monday.

    Note: Given the circuit we are doing, and the “Union-Related” tensions between Manali and Leh, renting a motorcycle from Manali/Amritsar/Chandigarh/Delhi for this ride isn’t an option. Advisable to have the RC book in your name.

    This Is A Motorcycle Ride

    Remember — this is a motorcycle ride — if you aren’t comfortable riding a motorcycle, or are averse to all-round discipline, save us and yourself the trouble – don’t register! Like always, in 2019, this is the only Musafirs batch for the Leh Motorcycle Ride … tour operators do 25-30 batches annually with “TOURISTS,” not us. We are not the conventional money-minting tour operators, biking is the only thing we do and for that we are known.

    Honestly, this ride is almost sold out with motorcyclists from the Musafirs Motorcycle Club taking up 17 of the 20 slots (3 Women Motorcyclists, 13 Men Motorcyclists and 1 Ride Manager — that’s the group configuration till now). We just have two more slots to go — if you are interested in riding with a real, no-fuss and disciplined motorcycle club, here’s your chance.

     Step 3: Fill in the REGISTRATION FORM

    Fully refundable cancellation until 15 May, 2019. In case of cancellation after this date, the booking amount will not be refunded or adjusted – because that is what the club will have paid to make bookings for you. Although, you can find a replacement for yourself to go on the ride instead – someone who’s not already registered.

    Note

    There’ll be a pre-ride meetup on 11th May (evening) of all registered participants. Make yourself available. We get acquainted with each other and we share our prior experiences along with do’s and don’ts. You’ll also be added to the Leh 2019 whatsapp group so share your active whatsapp phone number when you fill the ride registration form.

    The Musafirs is an evolved riding club with numerous online and print publications writing about it (check it out). Riding with the Musafirs requires biking discipline and punctuality. Our riders demonstrate real control, discipline and temperament by riding in the designated formations at the designated speed and performing responsibilities that make the ride function like clock-work.

    The Musafirs is NOT a “THERE TODAY, GONE TOMORROW” motorcycle club. We have been doing it for the past NINE years and have been covered by numerous online and print publications, if you have never been with us on any ride, go through our past rides or facebook page and you will know.
