#A homestay like none other in the world where bamboo homes are built on tiny floating islands in the middle of a lake and the only way in and out is via a rowing boat ride. A place away from civilisation completely isolated from the outer world where the only noise that you may hear is crickets and toads in the water while the only view you might see during the night is the entire universe of stars looking down upon you.

#Visit the capital of Manipur – Imphal, is a sophisticated city yet holds the cradle of history. The Kangla palace which dates back to 33AD is its centre of attraction which runs on both sides of the Imphal River.  Visit a market entirely run by Women – the epitome of women empowerment which you will not witness anywhere else in our country.

#Kohima the capital of Nagaland which also hosts one of the biggest gatherings of the northeast territories showcases the hidden culture and rituals of ancient tribes which thrive within our borders for thousands of years. The spectacular closing ceremony of the Hornbill festival decorated with some of the renowned rocks bands put up a show which one can seldom forget.

#Ride to a  small serene village in the mountains is the cultural epicentre of Angami tribe – the largest tribe of Nagaland. This place called Khonoma is a must-visit just so you can admire the beauty of nature surrounding this village and the tales of the past.

The entire northeast is one way or the other situated on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra river and the eastern part of Arunachal Pradesh also known as the land of the rising sun in India is one of the major reasons for conflict between India and China. The East Siang district which is an offbeat territory holds some of the most beautiful mountain roads, valleys, small river tributaries, hidden lakes that are preserved from commercialisation and tourists.

#The largest River Island in the world – Majuli, is the epitome of Assamese culture for the last 500 years. The fact that we shall stay in bamboo huts built on stilts over pond is not something that you come across every other day. The way out of this island is an hour-long ferry ride on the Brahmaputra river. This place is situated deep within the heart of the then Ahom kingdom which defeated the Mughals 17 times but today it’s more of a relaxed and laid back place to just sit and unwind in the lap of nature. If you have not been to this place then this ride is just for you. 

#An hour-long ferry ride from this island on the river Brahmaputra,  taking small sips at the view of the sun going down the horizon, painting the sky with amazing combination of golden shades and the simmering gold scattered on the waves creates a visual symphony that is unmatched by any artist in this world.

#An undiluted emotion called patriotism is felt standing in front of the flag pole which hoisted the tricolour in the mainland of India by the greatest leader who knew nothing else but Independence at all cost – Subash Chandra Bose. The tales of valour and the might of the first army of India (INA) can only be witnessed in the INA Museum and surrounding regions.

The cold winter evenings brought early by the sunsets of the east makes an excellent time to gather around the bonfire lit up in the middle of the rice paddies located on the doorstep of Kaziranga national park, with your favourite poison in the glass, and talking nonstop about the day on the road, with the adventures we lived on the ride, the memories we created and the people we had the privilege to ride on the roads of Northeast shall always bring a smile whenever you think of it.
